More about the artist
Staller was born in 1947 in Mineola, New York and is the oldest of five children. His father worked in real estate and his mum was a homemaker. His father area of real estate was architecture, this inspired Staller to study architecture himself.
In 1971, Staller completed a Bachelor Degree in Architecture at the University of Michigan. Toward the end of his time at the University of Michigan, Staller began to create sculptures and performance arts. Merce Cunningham and John Cage had performed at the university at that time and praised artwork that Staller had created. They were the first professional performers to make Staller realize that he was truly an artist. In the fall of 1971, Staller moved to New York City and lived there until 1991. He then bought an 1829-vingtage Lutheran Church, located in Lyons, PA. Staller then used and renovated the church as a weekend retreat until 1991, then decided to move out of New York to live full-time in Lyons, PA.
His work spread across the 70's, 80's and 90's.Works like "The Light Master" and "urban UFO's" were made.

Evaluation
When it came to painting with light, there wasn't many photographers I used to look to and sample their work from, Eric Staller was the photographer that caught my eye highly, with Dean Chamberlin another photographer in this field I had looked at more intricately. With the project being short for me my thoughts never really shifted or developed, I liked using a lot of real bright colours, which is why in my shoots I really messed around with yellow, but I wasn't too afraid of having a variety of colour, getting a hula hoop for my partner to spin in front of the camera to illuminate many colours in the outcome.
From what I made, I would say I am more than happy with what I have gotten in painting with light. The photoshoot with the yellow light stick were some of my favourite photos that I have gotten in photography so far in general, the ooze of the lines being all over the place in the images came out in a very satisfying way to me. The ideas I presented were limited, but I feel that I got a fair amount of my ideas out there, there wasn't much more in my head that I feel could've been explored personally.
In terms of experimenting, I chose to make my painting with light edit completely with my own ideas, not using a tutorial to model off, putting 3 of my painting with light images to replace the background of the original image, although it isn't a really unique or amazing outcome, I found it interesting as I went in blind and had an outcome that actually didn't look as half bad as I initially though it could be. This edit is also the only edit in any of my projects so far to have been completely independently come up with.
My learning over time could've definitely been recorded better, there is a lack of content on this page and overtime it hasn't gone on to change, then again I didn't had a focus on painting with light last year and this year my focus will my shifted on my student choice as well, overall while the essentials are there, not much after that is on the painting with light section. From what I have made here though, I have chosen to show it out in a chronologically accurate way, with the mood board being first and descending down in order of earliest made to latest made.
